The aim of this work was to study the preparation of chitosan (CTS) composite materials for biomedical applications. CTS solution was prepared at 3% by weight in acetic acid. CTS/HA or CTS/Si-HA suspensions were prepared at 5 different HA or Si-HA concentrations: 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% by weight of CTS. The obtained suspensions were then cast using solvent-casting and tape-casting techniques at room temperature. Examination by an optical microscope showed the well-blended samples were obtained from both techniques while the tape-cast samples had smoother surfaces than those of the solvent-cast samples. Finally, contact angle measurement was performed to study the hydrophilicity of the samples. It was found that the composite samples with higher amounts of HA or Si-HA possessed higher hydrophilicity.
