Preparation Process Development for the Transparent Ferroelectric Glass-Ceramics Containing Nano-Alkali Niobate Crystals by Introduction of Nucleating Agent
There has been a considerable amount of interest in preparation and study of the physical properties of nanoparticles with relevant dielectric properties, such as LiNbO3, NaNbO3, KNbO3 and PbTiO3 etc. glass-ceramics were derived from Na2O-Nb2O5-Al2O3-SiO2 system. Small amount of TiO2 were also introduced into glass compositions to study crystallization bahivour of the glass with present of this nucleating agent. Conventional melt-quenching technique was employed for a glass production and the selected bulk glass pieces were subjected to heat-treatment process at appropriate temperature determined from DTA results . To observe progress of crystal growing, the treatment time was varied from 0.1 to 2 hours. After six different glass compositions were produced, glass samples are light brown color. Phase identification through XRD patterns, there were 3 phases, NaNbO3, NaNbO8 and a sodium aluminum silicate compound, found in the opaque glass samples. NaNbO3 is a predominatant phase in all samples. Fortunately, clear transparent glass was obtained from the composition with 21, 16, 58 and 5 mol% of Na2O, Nb2O5, Al2O3 and SiO2, respectively, and without TiO2 adding. Heat treatment of this glass did not induce phase change, three aforementioned phases still present. However, intensity of NaNbO3 increases with increasing treatment time. But the NaNbO3 crystalline size do not increase with time.
